  1. I attended a series of workshops already but I cannot introduce them all on this post, so I will talk about the one that has been very interesting for me.

It's a workshop by Rene Torien and the title was How can I teach Electric circuits?

This is what I took from the workshop :

Rene uses another approach to teaching which shifts from teaching the algorithm to conceptual understanding of sub topicas embedded in this topic.

She centralizes learner's thinking on three key questions about the concepts that will enable learners to enhance their understanding on Electric circuits.

    And these are:

    What happens inside the cell?
    What happens inside the wire?
    What happens inside the bulb?

I found this approach to learning very stimulating as learners actually think about what they are doing.

I will ask Rene for the PowerPoint presentation of her workshop and share it amongst colleagues.

  2. This sounds very interesting! Electric circuits is one of the topics in which learners can perform much better if their conceptual understanding is at a higher level. I am so glad you have attended this session and best luck using this approach. I would really like to see the Powerpoint presentation if possible.

  3. Best Presentation for me so far presented by Mark van Heerden and Tshepo Majake on how to examine the barriers of physical Sciences practicals using a multimedia approach to also relate it to air pollution and factors affecting climate such as green house gases.

  4. Excellent - there are indeed SO many barriers to practical work! Bring back the ideas to Lejweleputswa!!

Today's keynote address was by Professor T.A Mapotse from UNISA the topic was on Action Research in Sciences.

Colleagues this is a very thought-provoking methodology as it combines both action and research ib the classroom.

I personally can attest its effectiveness on the enhancement of ones teaching because I did my undergraduate research on the same topic as well, but in my Mathematics class.
