November Examinations for Physical Sciences: Grades 10 and 11

Remember that it is compulsory for ALL Free State schools to write the grade 10 and 11 national common examination papers in November 2015

The national circular dealing with these examinations are available now. Click here to download it (pdf file 1,7 MB); there is important information you need to be aware of. Annexure B in the circular is for the attention of the districts and province. Principals have to complete Annexure A.

Click here to read the previous post of 7 September on this blog about these examinations. The following important issues are dealt with:
  • The dates of the examinations;
  • Learners must have the examination guidelines; and
  • All topics must be completed.

Memo comments: Grade 12 September P2 (Chemistry)

*** Latest info ***

Q2.1.4: The second criterium, which expects the whole molecule to be correct, includes the position of the double bond. Example: If a learners draws the correct structural formula for pent-2-ene, the learners gets one out of two. First mark is given for having the correct functional group. Second mark is lost because the position of the double bond is wrong; hence the whole molecule is not correct.

Q5.4: First calculation for number of moles is equal to 0,015 (not 0,15) and 0,015 must also be used in the second calculation where volume is calculated.

Q6.2: A square is needed in the Kc equation for the concentration of SO3; on pages 7 and 8.

Q9.3.3: Negative marking is applicable.

Are you in need of equipment and chemicals for your laboratory?

https://efadhuq.files.wordpress.com/
2012/05/angry_man_cartoon.png
Teachers often complain that they do not have chemicals and/or equipment. This is a reminder - once again - that:

1)  The physical science and natural science HODs and teachers are responsible to know what they have and what they need.

2)  Inform your principal and SMT about your needs in order to budget - these items are part of what we call LTSM.

3)  Depending on the category of school you are (Section 21, etc.), you have to get the procurement process on the way.

4)  The equipment provided through subject advisers to schools is a bonus; it is not the rule. Staff members at schools must see that laboratories are functional in order to do practical work.

Earlier this year a post has appeared on this blog (click here for the post) with contact details of Edutrade.

Browse Edutrade's website and send them an enquiry about prices, etc. Start the process to make practical work more effective. You have to initiate the process. Lastly; don't assume chemicals are "old". Test them and see whether they still do what they intend to do.

Subject advisers meet officials of the National Department of Education

Technical Sciences will be implemented in 2016 in technical schools.

For this purpose, the subject advisers of the Free State have met the curriculum officials of the National Department of Education for an orientation session concerning the new curriculum. Here are a few pictures where one of the experiments was done.

A visit was also paid to the workshops of Technical High School Louis Botha in Bloemfontein.

Waarom is dit so?
